Introduction

Rhinefield House offers two particularly distinctive ceremony settings. Couples can marry inside the impressive Grand Hall or hold an outdoor ceremony at the Forest Garden Doric Temple.

Having worked in both settings, we understand that each requires a very different floral approach.

The scale and architectural detail of the Grand Hall call for flowers that remain visible without competing with the room. At the Doric Temple, the flowers need to frame the ceremony while allowing the formal gardens and surrounding landscape to remain part of the view.

Our wedding florals are planned around the setting you have chosen, helping you decide where flowers will create the greatest impact, how suitable displays can continue into the wedding breakfast and which styling details will complement the way you plan to use Rhinefield House.

Why we love Rhinefield House

We love the contrast between Rhinefield House’s historic interiors and its formal New Forest gardens.

The Grand Hall has a strong architectural presence, with carved timberwork, chandeliers, tall windows and a Minstrels’ Gallery. It offers a memorable setting for both ceremonies and wedding breakfasts.

The Forest Garden Doric Temple provides an entirely different experience, positioned at the far end of the gardens beyond the lawns and water feature.

Both settings provide opportunities for flowers to feel generous and expressive while remaining connected to the venue.

Rhinefield House also lends itself particularly well to planned flower repurposing. Floral pillars can remain in position as a backdrop for the top table, while urn arrangements from the Doric Temple can be moved into the Grand Hall for the wedding breakfast.

Our guide to repurposing wedding flowers from ceremony to reception explains more about how suitable arrangements can be designed with a second position in mind.

Why Choose Petals & Posies for Your Rhinefield House Wedding?

Choosing a florist with first-hand knowledge of Rhinefield House helps ensure your flowers are designed around both the appearance of the venue and the way the wedding day moves through it.

We have created flowers for ceremonies in the Grand Hall and at the Forest Garden Doric Temple. Our experience includes dressing the Temple pillars, styling the Grand Hall fireplace, creating ceremony focal points and planning how flowers can continue into the wedding breakfast.

When the Grand Hall is used for both the ceremony and wedding breakfast, it receives a full reset during the drinks reception. Where suitable, we can plan the flowers around that changeover and remain on site to reposition larger displays when this forms part of your service.

Our How We Work page explains how we bring together planning, floral design, setup and on-the-day styling so each part of the wedding feels carefully considered.

Understanding How a Wedding Flows at Rhinefield House

For an indoor wedding, the ceremony and wedding breakfast can both take place in the Grand Hall.

After the ceremony, guests usually move onto the terrace for drinks when the weather is suitable. The Grand Hall is then fully reset for the wedding breakfast.

When the weather does not allow a terrace drinks reception, the King’s Room provides an indoor alternative.

For weddings held in the Grand Hall, the King’s Room is also used for the evening celebration, allowing the different parts of the day to move naturally through the venue.

This flow creates several opportunities to make the flowers work across more than one part of the day.

Ceremony pillars may remain in their original position and later frame the top table. Floral urns or other suitable displays can be moved into the Grand Hall, while smaller arrangements can be placed on the wedding breakfast tables during the reset.

The movement of flowers is always agreed in advance and depends on the scale of the arrangements and the service included within the couple’s floral and styling plans.

Flowers for the Scale of the Grand Hall

The Grand Hall is rich in architectural detail, so the floral design needs to be considered carefully.

Rather than adding flowers to every available surface, we recommend identifying the areas where they will have the greatest influence on the ceremony and wedding breakfast.

  • The main ceremony focal point
  • The signing of the registry table
  • The Grand Hall fireplace
  • The entrance into the room
  • The top table
  • Selected guest tables
  • The cake or another feature area

Larger floral pillars, arches, urns and grouped arrangements work particularly well because they create clear focal points while holding their own against the height and character of the Hall.

Our wedding ceremony styling ideas provide further inspiration for creating impact while allowing the character of the venue to remain visible.

Creating a Grand Hall Ceremony Focal Point

A clear ceremony focal point helps define the position of the couple within the Grand Hall.

Floral pillars or a suitable floral arch can frame the ceremony without covering the room’s architectural features. The scale, shape and positioning need to work with the tall windows, carved timber and proportions of the Hall.

For Tiago and Willow’s Rhinefield House wedding, we created blush floral pillars for their Grand Hall ceremony.

Rather than moving them afterwards, the pillars remained in their original ceremony position during the full room reset. The top table was then positioned in front of them, allowing the same floral display to become the backdrop for the wedding breakfast.

It is a good example of why repurposing does not always mean physically moving an arrangement. Sometimes the most effective approach is to plan the later room layout around the flowers from the beginning.

Outdoor Ceremonies at the Forest Garden Doric Temple

The Forest Garden Doric Temple provides a beautiful outdoor ceremony setting at the far end of the formal gardens.

We have dressed the Temple with a floral garland arranged around its pillars. The garland was installed using a carefully selected method that protected the structure and could be removed easily after the ceremony.

We have also styled ceremonies there using tall urns with floral displays and flowers for the signing of the registry table.

These designs help define the ceremony area while allowing the Temple, gardens and surrounding landscape to remain an important part of the setting.

Where a couple would like a more detailed installation, we also have the knowledge and capability to dress the dome itself, subject to the agreed design and venue requirements.

Our wedding ceremony styling ideas show how floral structures, pedestals, urns and aisle flowers can be used to create a strong ceremony focal point without overwhelming the setting.

Repurposing Flowers from the Doric Temple

Flowers from the Doric Temple can continue into the wedding breakfast when their design and mechanics make this practical.

We have moved tall floral urns from the Temple into the Grand Hall, positioning one at either end of the top table.

This gave the ceremony flowers a second important role and created a strong floral focal point for the wedding breakfast.

Where included within your service, we can also reposition other suitable arrangements, including floral pillars, floral arches and larger wedding displays.

Because of the distance between the Temple and Grand Hall, these movements need to be planned properly and sufficient time allowed for the changeover.

Our guide to repurposing your wedding flowers explores the different ways ceremony flowers can continue into the wedding breakfast.

Styling the Grand Hall Fireplace

The fireplace is one of the Grand Hall’s natural architectural focal points.

We have styled it many times with floral displays and candlelight, using its scale to add warmth and atmosphere to the room.

Our fireplace flowers are designed within their own trays and placed securely on the surface. They do not need to be fixed to the fireplace itself, helping to protect the venue while still creating a generous floral feature.

We have also used real church candles inside pillar vases on the fireplace, with different candle heights bringing warmth and interest to the display.

The fireplace can be styled as a feature in its own right or connected visually with the ceremony flowers, top table and wider floral palette.

Where candlelight and selected decorative details form part of your plans, our wedding styling service can be considered alongside the flowers.

Wedding Breakfast Flowers in the Grand Hall

The Grand Hall can support both low and taller table arrangements, depending on the table layout and the atmosphere you would like to create.

Low floral arrangements can bring colour and texture to the tables while maintaining clear sightlines. Taller designs can introduce height across the room, provided their scale and proportions work with both the tables and the Hall itself.

A combination of arrangements can also create variation across the wedding breakfast while allowing the floral investment to be focused where it will have the greatest effect.

The top table can be given additional emphasis using ceremony flowers that have either remained in position or been repurposed following the ceremony.

This might include floral urns at either end of the table, pillars remaining behind it, a suitable floral arch or a long and low arrangement.

Our guide to styling wedding tables without overcrowding them explains how flowers, candlelight, table proportions and guest comfort can be considered together.

Candlelight and Selected Table Styling

We have supplied candlelight and selected table styling for weddings at Rhinefield House.

Candlelight works particularly well in the Grand Hall, bringing warmth to the darker timber and creating additional atmosphere as natural light begins to fade.

Our experience includes styling the fireplace with church candles inside pillar vases alongside floral arrangements designed within their own protective trays.

Where table styling is included, we can consider candlelight and selected finishing details alongside the flowers so that everything feels appropriate for the character and scale of the room.

Any proposed use of real flames on wedding breakfast tables would be checked against Rhinefield House’s current requirements before the final design is confirmed.

Lawn Games on the Terrace

Petals & Posies lawn games are available for couples who would like to include them during their drinks reception.

At Rhinefield House, they can be positioned on the terrace for guests to enjoy while the Grand Hall is being reset.

This creates a relaxed and sociable part of the day, particularly during suitable weather when guests are already enjoying drinks outside.

Our lawn games sit alongside our wider collection of wedding finishing details.
